Mary Keppeler has been communicating through the
elegance and grace of the harp for over thirty years. She
expresses clear, clean sounds through a resonant,
restful, yet energizing music. Mixing classical, popular
and folk arrangements, she creates music that can
convey moods ranging from playfulness to quiet reflection
or nostalgia to elegant wonder.
Musical training and harp education for Mary have
included years studying with Betsy Dahl in Burlington VT,
Nyle Hallman (formerly with the Don Ho Show) in
Honolulu, HI, National Music Camp in Interlochen, MI,
Danis Kelly (principle harpist with the Milwaukee
Symphony Orchestra) in Milwaukee, WI, and Alice
Chalifoux of the Camden, Maine Summer Harp Colony.
She holds degrees from Hope College in Holland, MI and
Case Western University in Cleveland, OH.
Mary lived for over fifteen years in Romania, Austria and
Japan. During her time abroad, the harp took a back
burner to family and NGO work. However, while in Romania, she was able to contribute to
recordings on three CDs, did live radio work and played for various public functions including one
for the U.S. Ambassador to Romania.
Since returning to the United States in 2003, she has a thriving free-lance harp business, playing
for weddings, receptions, private parties, funerals, corporate and charitable functions. Some of
her clients for private functions have been the Milwaukee Athletic Club, Milwaukee Brewers
Corporation, Medical College of Wisconsin Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences,
Elmbrook Church, Waukesha Symphony Orchestra and the American Cancer Society. She
has been playing for High Tea at Milwaukee’s most elegant and historic hotel, the Pfister Hotel,
since November 2005.
In addition to solo harp engagements, Mary is active as a free-lance orchestra and ensemble
harpist. Performances include those with Green Bay Symphony, Skylight Opera orchestra,
Manitowoc Symphony, Shegoygan Symphony, Concord Chamber Orchestra, Dudley Birder
Chorale, Milwaukee Master Singers, Lutheran Acapella Choir (Milwaukee), Voices in Harmony
(Crystal Lake, IL), Cluj (Romania) Opera Chorus, Tokyo International Singers and Mannheim
Steamroller.
